PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

As the patient, you play a critical role in the success of any surgical procedure. How to prepare for surgery will set the tone for your entire experience. Here are a few tips:

  • Fill your prescriptions for pain medications the day before surgery. Do not take any of these medicines before surgery­they are to be used as directed only after surgery.

  • Remove nail polish and clean toenails thoroughly.

  • Wash your feet thoroughly with antibacterial soap and a wash cloth the night before surgery. Make sure to dry well between your toes.

  • Plan to arrive at the hospital/office about one hour before your scheduled surgery time.

  • Wear loose fitting clothes.

  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery. Do not take any medication the morning of surgery unless instructed to do so by your doctor.

  • Have someone available to drive you home after surgery.
