CAST CARE AND PRECAUTIONS
You have been placed in a cast to allow healing of your foot and/or ankle problem. Here are some hints to make the cast easier to use and aid in your healing process.
1. If you have been placed in a non-removable cast you should keep the cast clean and dry. If you have been placed in a cast which is removable you may remove it to bathe. During bathing you should not put weight on the foot (unless otherwise told you may do so).
2. If you are using a removable cast it should be worn at all times during waking hours. You may remove it to sleep (unless told otherwise), but you should place the device next to your bed and not take any steps without it in place.
3. A cast will impair your ability to operate a car and any heavy machinery. YOU SHOULD NOT DRIVE WHILE IN YOUR CAST.
4. If you are instructed to remain non-weight bearing you should not place your foot on the ground at all. You should use crutches, walker or wheelchair to ambulate.
5. Any damage or irritation to your cast should be reported to the office immediately.
6. Please let us know any questions. We are trying to help you heal as fast as possible. |
